History Fact

Napoleon Was Once Attacked By a Horde of Bunnies

Once upon a time, the famous conqueror Napoleon Bonaparte was attacked by…bunnies. The emperor had requested that a rabbit hunt be arranged for himself and his men. His chief of staff set it up and had men round up reportedly 3,000 rabbits for the occasion. When the rabbits were released from their cages, the hunt was ready to go. At least that was the plan! Weird Laws

It's Illegal to Run Out of Gas on the German Autobhan

Notorious for having dynamic speed limits that give drivers a chance to travel more than 100 miles per hour, car enthusiasts and speed demons love trips along the German Autobhan. But, if you run out of gas, you could face a big fine. And don't even think of walking to a gas station; you'll get another fine for that!

Why? Germans believe you have the power to keep your car properly gassed up, so if you run out of gas, it's your own fault. Walking along the highway is unsafe, as is having your vehicle stalled on or on the side of the road. Keep your eyes on your gas gauge and fill 'er up when you get low.

When Wiki describes your country’s cuisine as “products suited to the cool and moist northern climate: barley, potatoes, rye, beets, greens, berries and mushrooms,” it’s difficult to get too excited.

Soups (borscht, beet root soup) and rye bread simply have a tough time competing with heartier dishes of game meat in the countries to the south.

Baltic countries are also big on pickling — pickled herring is particularly popular — which is, we'll say, an acquired taste.

There Will Be Blood Disrupted Shooting for No Country for Old Men

The two instant-classic pseudo-westerns of 2007 filmed in the same area of Marfa, Texas, around the same time, which created issues when a pyrotechnical test for There Will Be Blood created a huge smoke cloud that got into the shot for No Country For Old Men. Joel and Ethan Coen had to wait for it to dissipate before they could get back to shooting.
