Ready or Not

Like many horror movies out there the movie is less then 90 minutes long. Really that is as long as a horror movie really needs to be in reality, horror movies do not have much substance to them anyways. If it isn’t clear by now, I am not a huge fan of horror movies but on occasion I do like to watch them. A little scare isn’t as bad as we make it out to be.

The concept of the movie is that a wealthy family who has made their money in board games has expanded to include sports teams, has a tradition of playing a board game when a new member of the family comes in. on their wedding night they play a game. On this occasion they tend to be playing hide and seek. The bride hides where the rest of the family is seeking her. They need to find and kill her to perform the ritual before dawn. The family consists of a bunch of dim-witted misfits who shouldn’t be allowed around weapons, with the oldest family member is the only one who is actually able to hold use a weapon. One of the more disturbing parts of the movie is when one of the children is out of bed for some unknown reason but comes across the bride and shoots her in the hand. Children should not have weapons ever.

One of the reasons why I am not a fan of horror flics is that it is very easy to discern the people who are going to die and that ultimately you know how it is going to end. It is hard to be scared when you know that they are going to alive at the end. They may be injured but alive non the less. Which only leaves the jump scares and the anticipation of the moment that is scarier with the music that is being played in the scene. There usually really much story to film and thy are usually quite quick to help the story from moving forward quickly, which is kind of nice to have the story to be constantly moving along. Would I suggest horror movies on the regular or at all? No. I would rather be being watching a sci-fi or a rom com myself. I do think you are what you watch. If you watch something that is more scary or has a lot of violence then I think you become more aggressive, if you watch something more family friendly I think you are more kinder to people.

The movie ends with the girl getting away and not dying, clearly but is forever traumatized by the whole event happening especially on her wedding night. Another cliché that the movie that it takes place in the middle of no where so no one can hear the screams or the gun shots that go off. The girl has help from the bother in law who dies due to helping her. The husband who is against what is family is going but after discovers what his wife has done decides that he needs to join his family and help to kill her but as we know the girl lives.

Would I recommend Ready or Not. Maybe. If you are into horror movies sure why not. If not, then it is a pass.
