Don Jon is a short 90-minute movie and it doesn’t need to be any longer. It is written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I believe this was first movie that he ever directed. It was a good choice. The movie is essentially soft-core porn. If you didn’t know what porn hub was before this movie you certainly do now after watching this movie.
The movie contemplates sex from a guys perspective and what the women do to manipulate men into having sex with them. The movie does have some really big names in it like Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Brie Larson and Tony Danza. I don’t think I remember this movie coming out in 2013 but I do know about it now which isn’t bad to say. Sex does sell and this movie has a lot of sex in it. The ending concept of it is that sex is something only complete when you are really into it and are connecting with the person you are doing it with and they are into you in the same moment. It is the connection that makes it worth it. Maybe a little that porn is an addiction and is 100% fake.
Both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson put on a very good Irish American accident through out the movie. Julianne Moore can put on a very convincing marijuana smoker. I believe this isn’t the first roll that she has done this though which could be why I don’t find it hard to believe. The movie did play on a few different stereotypes of both men and women as well as how all Irish Americans must be catholic, go to church every Sunday and do confession. I wonder how off kilter this stereotype be in a few years from now.
Overall, I don’t think that I will watch this movie again. I do not think that I will recommend this movie to a lot of people or any one in fact but if it came up I would suggest that it is worth a watch at least once. I might watch it again in t he future, but I don’t think it will be any time soon.
