The Wild Robot by Peter Brown
The book follows Rozzum Unit 7134, or Roz for short, and her journey in becoming wild.Roz washes ashore after the boat that she was on sinks, and she is the only one left. She has had many adventures on this island before she comes across a goose egg that had fallen but still had survived. Roz works hard to keep it alive until the egg hatches. The egg hatches 'birthing' a goose named Brightbill.Together, the unlikely mother & son duo evolve, and together they can form a relationship and grow together. Brightbill migrates for the winter with the other geese while Roz stays behind on the island with the other animals. Together, they work to stay warm.In the spring, when Brightbill and the other geese return, the RECO's come to get Roz to bring her back to their makers, as she isn't supposed to be on the island. After a battle where all the animals on the island help, Roz ends up going back to her makers on her own accord as she needs repair! It is a heart warming story about becoming wild and knowing when to ask for help!
The Wild Robot Escapes by Peter Brown
Roz wakes up on Hilltop Farms, not knowing what has happened, but she is here to help with all of the farm's needs.Roz ends up making friends with the farmer's (Mr. Shareef) kids, Jaya and Jad. Roz knows that she needs to be gentle with the kids, as she will need them to help her escape the farm and get back to Brightbill. Roz befriends the wildlife and the livestock on the farm and spreads her story in hopes that Brightbill will come and find her. Brightbill eventually does, and the kids take out Roz's tracker so she can escape.Roz leaves the farm and makes it to the city, but is caught and brought to her maker. Due to the disruption that Roz had made, her body had to be melted down, but her maker kept your computer brain and put it into another robot body after talking with Roz to figure out the whole story of what went on with her. After the conversation, the maker brings Roz back to her island, where she can stay with her family.
The Wild Robot Protects by Peter Brown
The 3rd and final instalment of The Wild Robot series, The Wild Robot Protects, is about protecting the island that she lives on.Something called the poison tide is coming and ruining the water, therefore ruining the lives of all the animals that inhabit the island as well all the wildlife surrounding the island and is creating havoc on all wildlife that the poison tide touches. With Roz's new body that her creator, Dr. Molovo has given her, Roz is now bigger, stronger and is water proof.Roz sets out on a journey over land, sea, and in an area that has icebergs in it to talk to an ancient whale named Gurry to see what is causing the poisonous tide. When Roz meets Gurry he tells her of this mining ship called the Juggernaut and how it must be stopped to stop the poison tide from spreading. Gurry is creating an army of his own to help stop the Juggernaut. Roz sets out ahead to see what the Juggernaut really is. Roz talks to the Juggernauts' captain, Akiko, to discuss a resolution. Akiko is going to stop what they are doing and is going to send robots out to clean up the oceans, but let's Roz know that they are mining materials to make robots.Roz makes it back to her island, where she is able to meet her grand goslings that Brightbill and Glimmer had together before they head off to migrate. As Roz watches them go, Roz knows that one day again she will leave this island and go on another adventure!
The Wild Robot On The Island by Peter Brown
This book is a simplified version of The Wild Robot. I read it very quickly, and I think it does a great job depicting how a robot washes up on a mysterious island, adopts a goose egg, and then raises a goose while communicating with other animals on the island and sharing and protecting them when she can.
Original Sin: Hulk vs. Iron Man by Mark Waid & Kieron Gillen
This is about how Bruce Banner acts first and thinks later, turning into the Hulk and dealing with things right away. The Hulk is trying to stop a bomb threat from going off, and Iron Man has to come in and help him calm the Hulk down. After the Hulk calms down, Tony and Bruce talk, and this whole misunderstanding could have been resolved by Bruce reading an email.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Race Against Time by Frank Cottrell Boyce
This book was great. We have Chitty and the Tooting family going from the Cretaceous period with the dinosaurs to medieval El Desperado and then to 1966 to participate in the Prix d'Elsmerelda. The family and Chitty have quite the adventures together until the supervillain and Nanny steal Chitty from the Tooting family.A cliff ending for sure!
Chitty Chitty Bank Bang Over the Moon by Frank Cottrell Boyce
This book starts off with a bang of the Tooting Family and the Potts family getting Chitty back from the super villain. After the adventure of having Big Ben fall into the Thames River Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Tooting family go over the moon. Soon afterwards, they decide that Chitty is to be the first car to be on the moon, which she is!After returning to each, they end up having a lot of adventures before Chitty decides that she would like to go on her adventure!
Overall, it has been a great week with tons of great books, but I am going to get back to my original goal for the second half of the year and go with quality over quantity. I want to read more of the books that I have on my bookshelf and not borrow books from the library. I want to be reading at my own reading level and taking the time to read what I want to be reading.
Overall, I want to be sure that I am taking the time out for me, and I am not burning out on reading, taking the time out for my loved ones, and that I am creating more balance in my life by reading and by doing other things!
I would just like to say happy reading, everyone, and I hope to see you on the next Dippit!
