The Last Duel came out in 2021 starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, Harriet Walter, and Ben Affleck.
The movie takes place in 1386, in medieval times. The story gets told from a few different perspectives about a man’s wife being raped and wanting to fight to the death the man who had raped her. If he is unsuccessful in killing him then his wife shall burn at the stake for making such statements. The man who raped her is a friend with all right people at the end of the day.
The last duel happens between the two men. At first you think that the younger man, Jacques Le Gris, would win the batter by Sir Jean de Carrouges ends up winning luckily saving his and his wife’s name in dignity. The sad part is, is that you wait two hours and fifteen minutes for the fight to last less then five minutes. It was a decent battle, but justice did prevail and was earned.
The movie hints at a legend of whether this a true story that happened. It was 1386 so not much has lasted since that time so we can’t say for sure, but the legend has it this story happened. Part of the legend is that a duel to the death was allowed to happen by the king of Paris after it was no longer in use anymore. It wasn’t the last duel to have happened but maybe one of the last duels to the death that happened.
The acting in the movie is rather something to be ashamed of by all parties. This movie is as rotten as people are making it out to be. The movie is disgraceful. Not because it is about rape but more, so the acting is horrible, and it is way longer than what it needs to be. I as an actor would be so embarrassed by this movie and that I was part of it that I would not want to talk about or give it any light as it is very much something that you wouldn’t want people to remember you by. I would not expect something so awful to come from Ridley Scott as a director as well.
Adam Driver decided to do a full-frontal scene for this movie, depending how you view him as an actor could be the only reason why you see him in this movie. Maybe Adam Driver really felt that passionate about this movie and its success that he felt that it was ok, I am not sure why he decided to do it in this scene or why it was necessary, but it really happened. Too bad the movie was a total flop. I find that nudity for the most part is not very needed in movies and is mainly unnecessary to get the message across, but this is my opinion.
Would I recommend this movie? Absolutely not. Please if you can help it, do not watch this movie. It is horrible and I want my two and a half hours back. Please do what you can to make this movie does not receive any more attention.
