Today's Dippit!

Quote

“Don’t settle for what life gives you; make life better and build something.”

Ashton Kutcher

Joke

I used to work in a shoe-recycling shop.

It was sole destroying!

Fun Fact

The "most typical human" fits this description.

According to a study developed for National Geographic in 2011, the world's "most typical" person is right-handed, makes less than $12,000 per year, has a mobile phone, and doesn't have a bank account.

Reading Fact

Illiteracy is still a problem

Just think for a moment, every fifth adult in the world cannot read or write! Two thirds of all illiterate people in the world are women, and every fourth teenager can’t read even the simplest sentence.

History Fact

I Knew Giants Were Real

Giants were a big part of Ancient Greek Mythology, and their existence was “proved” to the Greeks by enormous bones that could be found buried throughout the mountainous landscape. These “giant bones” were probably very convincing, although today we know that they were likely the bones of wooly mammoths and mastodons that can still be found all over the country.

Movie/TV Trivia

Often derided as a mega-flop, Waterworld actually took home nearly $90m more in worldwide box office than its estimated budget. Factor in TV sales, merchandise and home video and Kevin Costner’s ‘Kevin’s Gate‘ ended up floating quite nicely.

Movie/TV Quote

"It is the titular role!"

Lady Bird (2017)

It's commonly thought of as bad writing to use the word "titular" -- i.e. to say that Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson is the "titular" character in Greta Gerwig's near-perfect coming-of-age comedy Lady Bird. That's probably why it's so wonderful when Lady Bird's best friend Julie (Beanie Feldstein) lobs "titular" as an over-enunciated insult during a fight. Lady Bird, having fallen under the spell of some cool kids, did not come to claim the role she was assigned for the school play. What's that role? The Tempest in, well, The Tempest. "There is no role of the Tempest," Lady Bird bellows, before Julie cuts in: "It is the titular role." It's an ideal representation of the dumb shit high school friends argue over, and a star-making moment for Feldstein.
