"We are more often frightened than hurt; and we suffer more in imagination than in reality."

Joke

What do you call a duck that gets all A’s?

A wise quacker.

Fun Fact

The majority of Americans choose dogs over love.

Dogs have been known for the longest time as man's best friend, but Americans are increasingly taking that to a new level. A 2017 study from Rover.com conducted over three years found that 54 percent of dog owners are willing to end a relationship if their pup doesn't like their partner.

The study also found that 94 percent of dog owners consider their dogs to be a part of their family, and 78 percent include their pups in major family moments. Since one in four people said they bring their cuddly companions on first dates, maybe consider bringing dog treats instead of flowers next time.

Reading Fact

Reading is like cardio for your brain

Your brain is like a muscle. Joseph Addison said that “reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”, and he couldn’t have said it better. Reading brings existing neural pathways to life and keeps your brain elastic and active.

History Fact

The Moscow Drought

When Russians got lost in the revelry after the defeat of Germany in World War II, Moscow literally ran out of vodka. Considering this is a country that later encouraged citizens to drink vodka to stave off cancer in the aftermath of Chernobyl, I’m shocked.

Movie/TV Trivia

Finally, Dooley Wilson, who played the pianist Sam in Casablanca, was a drummer IRL who didn't know how to play the piano.

Movie/TV Quote

"You shall not pass!"

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

Ian McKellen became a badass in old age thanks to his roles as both Magneto in the X-Men franchise and Gandalf the Grey/White in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the latter, he's constantly defying expectations: His Gandalf is alternately goofy, sly, and terrifying. But when he faces off against the Balrog in The Fellowship of the Ring, he's just absurdly cool. "You shall not pass" is a feat of delivery, as it's McKellen's booming voice that makes a stand against the creature more than anything else. Listening to him, the room shakes.
