A monk found an old book of Archimedes and erased it.
In the 13th century, a monk found an old book by Archimedes (a Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer) all the way from the 10th century. Rather than exploring the purpose of the book, the monk erased the contents and wrote his prayers over it. Over time, scientists have determined that the monk erased a previously unknown book by Archimedes, that set the stage of Calculus thousands of years before Leibniz and Newton.
