Fun Fact

Many feet bones don't harden until you're an adult.

Feet are enormously complex parts of the body. Each foot contains 26 bones, as well as 33 joints and 19 muscles, which work together to allow for a huge range of motion and movements. But many of these bones remain cartilage throughout a person's childhood, slowly ossifying into bone as the years go on. According to the Ontario Society of Chiropodists, all of the bones in the foot don't completely harden until a person is about 21 years old!

History Fact

Stephen Girard, one of the wealthiest men in American history, personally saved the United States government from financial collapse during the War of 1812. He placed almost all of his personal assets at the disposal of the government, and underwrote 95% of the war loan issue, which allowed the US to continue the war.

Movie/TV Trivia

The Social Network

During one of the depositions, it is mentioned that the invention of Facebook made Mark Zuckerberg "the biggest thing on a campus that included nineteen Nobel Laureates, fifteen Pulitzer Prize winners, two future Olympians, and a movie star." One of the lawyers then asks, "Who was the movie star?" and the response is, "Does it matter?" This movie star was, in fact, Natalie Portman, who was enrolled at Harvard from 1999 to 2003 and helped screenwriter Aaron Sorkin by providing him insider information about goings-on at Harvard at the time Facebook first appeared there.

Movie/TV Quote "Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown."
