Understanding the Why

When doing anything in life I find that you need to find the reason or the ‘why’ you are doing it deeply enough that the ‘how to’ just takes care of itself.

What I mean is, is that if you have clearly defined what you are doing in life and know why you are doing it, for example if you want to start and to continue to exercise then knowing why you started to exercise as you do it helps keep you going. Life is fluid so you want to make sure that you are always adjusting the why aspect of why you are doing what it is that you are doing. Continuing to do research is a helpful tool to also help you out in the quest for why you are doing it.

I find that you also don’t want to rely on will power itself. You want to create habits around the tasks that you are doing and potentially scheduling it in so that way it is just easier or fluid to just do what needs to be done, it is just easier just to do it.

If you know why you are doing something then you can continue to do it in the future. If you know why you eat more nutritious then eating your fruits and vegetables isn’t so bad. If you know why you are working out then it isn’t so hard to work out. If you have it planned out in your day as to why you are doing it then it really is part of your routine of what it is that you are doing.

Another trick that I find that you can do is to find different ways to work with yourself versus against yourself. If you know that getting a workout in at the beginning of the day is easier or else it just wont happen then work out in the morning. If you know that it is easier to get some fruit in at breakfast and vegetables in at lunch then plan those meals around that. If you need an alarm set in your phone to help remind you to do something then go a head and set an alarm. If you prefer to have a more textile approach and to have a physical journal then do that and make sure that it is always handy for you to look at and to use.

Always redefined why you are doing what you are doing. I find that if you know why you are doing it fully, then the how to will honestly work itself out because you know why you are doing it and will be making every effort to make it happen?

How often do you define and redefine the habits that you are doing in your life? Do you require to have a physical journal or a digital one? Do you have alarms set to help you out with what you are doing in life? Do you have such habits in your life that you just do what needs to be done without any reminders?
