This week I have finished reading the Fever Crumb series by Philip Reeve and I have started to read The City of Ember series by Jeanne DuPrau.
This week I have read…
1. A Web of Air by Philip Reeve
2. Scrivener’s Moon by Philip Reeve
This is what I thought of each book
A Web of Air by Philip Reeve
This book starts 2 years after the first one and it has Fever doing the lights for the Rolling Stones, the traveling theater troupe. They stop at the city of Mayda where they stay for a while. This book is really about air crafts. Fever being an engineer meets Mr. Thursday who has been a member of the engineering guild while she has been away and has a shaven head which is how she knows initially that is where she is from. Fever is rather interred about flying contraptions and how Thursday is trying to make this happen. A ship that does take air does happen and the air ship is called the Jenny Haniver.Fever also meets Arlo who is a good friend that she has and runs after at the end of the book but he is already on the Jenny Haniver and it has taken off. Fever also finds out that Mr. Crumb is also her father.
Scrivener’s Moon by Philip Reeve
There is a lot going on in this book and I want to know all of it!Fever and Wavy get sent away by Mr. Crumb to see what is happening on the fringes of the out lands. Charlie is new apprentice is happy that he can be Mr. Crumbs main focus now that Fever is gone. When news returns that Wavy has died but Fever is still alive, Charlie makes sure that Mr. Crumb never finds out. As it turns out Fever and Wavy were never to return and were essentially sent out to see what was happening and to report back and that is it. Charlie and Mr. Crumb do get what is coming to them by the end though.Fever who is now by herself ends up finding finding a group of friends including Clooney and her brother. They end up being far from being anywhere and they need to take shelter from the coming storms. Fever saw a picture once and new a pyramid with 3 sides was a building should be close by that was used a long time before when the downsizing happened. Together the kids make there way there. At the pyramid they end up finding out that this was an Institute where the night stalkers where created among other things like gene therapy and re sequencing during the war. Over time the Scriver Institute became Scriveners which was what the night stalkers are called in Fevers time (night stalkers during the time of Mortal Engines) Here you find out that the downsizing was a war that ended quickly between USA and China and the Scriveners were created as soldiers to fight and that there was some still there at there at the Institute. Fever discovers that a new kind of human was created to withstand the radiation that occurred after the bombs went off during the war and that they had spots on them to separate them from other humans, over the years, the spots had faded and Fever discovers that she is one of those humans. She was modified DNA dating back hundreds of years and realized that this is why the scrivener's never really bother her and why the Institute opened for them, it was all due to her altered DNA.London gets mobile, leaving some of its people behind, and seeks out what are now static settlements. Fever is in a fight when London comes across, fights Charlie and frees Clooney from London and together they are able to venture out and help other static settlements with what is now their new normal with moving cities and non moving settlements!
The Fever Crumb series is really amazing and I will have to listen to it before I listen to the Mortal Engines I think.
I am looking forward to listening to the City of Ember series as well and to watch the movie as well!
Happy reading everyone and I will see you on the next Dippit!
