Night Flights by Philip Reeve
This story follows Anna Fang and how she was an orphan on the Arc Angle Ship and her code name was K420.The Arc Angel is being run by Kale Industries. Mr. Kale's youngest son is wanting an engineer to help him build a new type of air ship so Anna Fang get suggested to help.Anna helps him and together they are going to sail the ship in a competition but due to social pressure he needs to choose someone else. Out of spite Anna steals the ship and calls it the Jenny Havier. Anna goes on in her pirate journey and the story ends with her planning on taking Tom and Hester back to London.
A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
I listened to this book and it was done very well.I really did enjoy listening to this book so much. This book follow Pip, for a class project she is researching this murder that happened in her small town. The girl that died was Andie and her brother who had unaligned himself was thought to be believe the person that murdered her.Pip goes on and figures out who has done this with her own and her families lives being threatened. As it turns out, someone is responsible for Andie's death and someone else is responsible for Andie's brothers death. The truth of who Andie was actually, being a drug dealer, bully, blackmailers and having an affair with a teacher doesn't paint her in the best light but she still didn't deserve to die because of it. Tidbits of information kept being released to keep me on my toes as a listener to who had done what! It was really well written.
The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Caused an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt
I wanted to read this book for a long time and I am happy that I took the time to read it now.The book is about the rise of smart phones and social media and its effects on youth today. The data is showing that the longer we are on screens especially at that age the high rate of depression and anxiety that you feel. The book also explores the difference that this makes on both girls and boys and states that there is more data at the moment for girls then boys. I did like the author pointing out the difference in how girls tend to draw more inwards where boys tend to have more out bound aggression to their feelings.I guess the book is a reminder to go out and touch grass and that you are going to remember the times you went out and did something and not the hours you spend online in engaged in someone else's life.
All together it has been a great time reading these books this week and I am looking forward to reading more this week. I am super excited about reading The Anxious Generation, it had some eye opening ideas.
I am hoping that my holds come in this week and I can continue to listen to The Good Girls Guide to Murder series.
Happy reading everyone and we will see you on the next dippit!
