Finishing off the Mary Poppins Series

This week I finished off reading the Mary Poppins series and I am very happy that I was able to accomplish that.

This week I read…

1. Mary Poppins Opens the Door by P. L. Travers

2. Mary Poppins in the Park by P. L. Travers

3. Mary Poppins in the Kitchen by P. L. Travers

4. Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane by P. L. Travers

5. Mary Poppins and the House Next Door by P. L. Travers

This is what I thought about each book.

Mary Poppins Opens the Door by P. L. Travers

This book had a lot of different adventures and it first starts off with the piano tuner who just so happens to be Mary's cousin who was given 7 wishes and he wants to give them away but is unsuccessful in this story.Mary tells the kids about a king that was outsmarted by a cat who the kids are very entertained by. Next the children go to an undersea party where Mary was the guest of honor and all of the other guests where people from fairy tales like Cinderella and Huckleberry Finn. The kids and Mary have a very wonderful day in the part that is soon followed by a dance that the children's parents partake in. During this party Jane feels the winds shift so her and Michael go up to the nursery to find Mary Poppins. They soon find her in the mirror in the same nursery but it is opposite, when Mary opens the door Jane and Michael think that it is to their neighbours but it isn't. Jane and Michael knew that as soon as Mary opens the door and walked through she would be gone and she was.The Banks family didn't know if she was going to come back or how long she would be gone but they were happy that they knew her.

Mary Poppins in the Park by P. L. Travers

This book was quite interesting. All of the adventures in this book happened in the park. This book wasn't as entertaining as the other ones but it was still good. In my opinion I don't think Mary Poppins was in the book enough. The kids are on many different adventures with meeting the Goose-girl, talking cats and the people who live under the dandelions.Lions and Unicorns also make an appearance in this book but its over all not very adventurous but this particular unicorn seemed more arrogant and self righteous then magical though. Mary Poppins didn't seem to leave but was there to the end celebrating her birthday with the Banks family in the park.

Mary Poppins in the Kitchen by P. L. Travers

This is a cute short story about how the house keeper and the cook are out of the house for a week to deal with sickness so the Banks family ask Mary Poppins to help out which of course she does.Jane, Michael, John, Barbara and Annabel want to help out as well and they do. They all go out to the shops to get the ingredients and cook them back at home.It is one week of fun in the kitchen with Mary Poppins.Majority of the book is the recipes that the Banks family eats that week.

Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane by P. L. Travers

The first part of the book is about is about the park keeper and how no one is treating the park or him with respect and there is a lot of mayhem ensues in the part like a Pegasus comes and the park keeper needs to deal with it.Near the end of the book Mary Poppins and the kids end up having a picnic in the park and they get visited by their friends and play with some friends but the story ends with the kids in the nursery and Mary being strict and having them go to bed thinking that Mary might be leaving them soon.

Mary Poppins and the House Next Door by P. L. Travers

This book has lots of shenanigans in it that is true to a Mary Poppins book.Ms. Andrews (Mr. Bank's old nanny) comes to live in house number 18 on Cherry Tree Lane and she brings a boy named Lottie with her. (Lottie means son of sun)One day Mary Poppins, Jane, Michael, Barbara, John, Annabelle and Lottie go to the park. During the night they go up into the sky where they meet the moon. Lottie goes with the moon as that is his true purpose to go and do.When the others are coming back down from the moon, the park officer and the police chief with him and communicates what he saw but the police chief knows that no one can talk to the moon let alone be floating in the air. Ms. Andrews needs help to find Lottie but no one knows where to find him but Mary is able to distract everyone and telling them that he went home. Ms. Andrews and the pirate neighbour become friends and keep each other company. The book ends with Jane and Michael asking Mary where she is from and where she calls home and Mary responds with 'home is where I am' which is very true.

I am happy to be done reading the Mary Poppins series and I am onto the next!  I hope that I enjoy it just as much.

Happy Reading everyone and I will catch you on the next Dippit!
