This week I have finished reading Just Friends by Haley Pham.
Overall, I didn’t really like the book. I did think it was super cute and adorable, but I think that Haley got a book deal because she is big online and that a lot of lot of problems with the book or more so to do with the editors of the book than Haley herself.
Good for Haley for writing this book but I think that it wasn’t really flushed out a whole lot in the end.
I think that a huge thing about this book that should have been edited was the fact that when the ARC’s were sent out there were 2 adjectives that were used to describe her feeling that were not changed and they should have been. To me, what was the point of sending out the ARC’s, get this criticism from everyone who read it and then change nothing regarding them? Now that the book is out and still, most people who are reading them say that it should have been changed. I think that due to Haley’s following online, the book was going to make sales, and that it could have made more sales it showed to us that things were changed and altered in the book. It is nice to be seen as a reader and give criticism and I just don’t agree with the fact that it wasn’t changed at all.
Well, after that rant, I have an office review of the book below.
Just Friends by Haley Pham
I thought that this book was cute, definitely for teenagers and not for adults! We are following Declan and Blair who were high school sweethearts but fell out of touch when Declan stayed at home after an accident and Blair went away for college. After college but before starting her new job she moves back to her home town for the summer to be with her great aunt Lottie before she passes. Blair needs to make some money so decides to fill out an application at the cafe that Declan owns but she doesn't know that at the time. This gives the 2 characters to reconnect and really find out what went on all those years ago.
I am happy that I read this book and I will read more that Haley has to write but hopefully on her next book the criticism is received well and that things can be changed!
